MIAA releases first high school hockey state tournament power ratings

The MIAA released the first edition of the winter state tournament power rankings on Friday.

In hockey, the South Shore boasts 37 current playoff teams -- 23 boys and 14 girls.

Six boys teams are ranked in the top 10 in their respective divisions, led by Archbishop Williams (No. 1 in Div. 1), Canton (No. 2 in Div. 2), Scituate (No. 2 in Div. 3), Norwell (No. 3 in Div. 4), Hanover (No. 6 in Div. 4) and Hingham (No. 9 in Div. 1).

Six girls teams also are ranked in the top 10 in their respective divisions. In Div. 1, Notre Dame Academy is No. 2 and town rival Hingham is No. 6. In Div. 2, Duxbury is No. 1, followed by No. 5 Pembroke, No. 6 Milton and No. 7 Canton. Marshfield, at No. 11, is lurking just outside the top 10.

As a reminder, teams that finish ranked inside the top 32, plus all teams below that with a .500 or better record, qualify for the state tournament.
