Start the fall season at a local farm. Seven nearby places to pick apples, pumpkins
BROCKTON — The start of fall began last weekend, bringing with it another season of apple and pumpkin picking, corn mazes, hayrides, cider donuts, and more. As the leaves start to turn and summer turns to fall, get in the spirit of the new season with these seven, family-friendly farms in the Brockton area.
Back Acre Farms (Middleboro)
Closing at the end of this year, Back Acre Farms in Middleboro is a small, family-owned farm offering hayrides, pick your own pumpkins, and a corn maze. Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends, this family-friendly farm is kicking-off one last season of fall.
Belkin Family Lookout Farm (Natick)
Established in 1650, Belkin Family Lookout Farm is one of the oldest continuous working farms in the U.S. Admission to the farm includes 5.5 pounds of you-pick Honeycrisp, McIntosh, Gala, and Golden Delicious apples, a 2-acre corn maze, a sunflower field, and access to a barnyard with goats and sheep. On the weekends, admission for adults and children ages three and older is $30, and $25 on weekdays. The farm is open for apple picking Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Homemade craft hard ciders and beers are also available to purchase on-site.
C.N. Smith Farm (East Bridgewater)
Located in East Bridgewater, C.N. Smith Farm is open for apple picking Tuesday through Sunday, weather permitting, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. With 17 different varieties of apples to choose from, peak harvest ranges from Labor Day through mid-October.
Cider donuts, along with hot coffee, cider, and caramel apples are available to purchase at the farmstand, Tuesday through Friday, and at the donut barn, Thursday through Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Five flavors of homemade hard ciders can also be purchased for those 21 and older.
As of late September, pick your own pumpkins was not yet available for the 2023 season.
Flint Farm Stand (Mansfield)
Located in Mansfield, Flint Farm offers a variety of fall goods, including pumpkins, mums, straw bales, winter squash, and apples. A corn maze ($8 per person) is open through Oct. 29, Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Don’t forget to stop by the 50-flavor ice cream stand to try apple crisp and pumpkin ice cream during Sept. and Oct., 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. through Columbus Day, and 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. through Oct. 30.
Langwater Farm (Easton)
Set on 80-acres of farmland in Easton, Langwater Farm offers a unique pick your own flowers from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. any day. Make a fall bouquet of deep purple, maroon, and pink-orange Dahlias for $28, which includes a mason jar and 10 stems.
On the weekends, catch a hayride ($3 for ages three and up), to a corn maze ($4 for ages three and up or $12 per family) or pumpkin patch with pick your own carving pumpkins ($0.90/pound) and sugar pumpkins ($1.25/pound). Heirloom winter squash ($1.50/pound) is also available.
Seasonal produce, including apples and cider from local growers, can be found at the farm store, open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Nessralla Farm (Halifax)
Nessralla Farm in Halifax offers a variety of fall necessities, including pumpkins, cornstalks, mums, gourds, hay and straw bales, apple cider, and decorative fall wreaths. The farm’s pumpkin patch features family-fun activities including cornhole, big Jenga, pumpkin tic-tac-toe, and a cow tractor ride on weekends. The farm is open daily, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sauchuk’s Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch (Plympton)
Located in Plympton, Sauchuk’s Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch offers much more than just that. Besides the pick your own pumpkin patch ($.69 per pound) and corn maze, visitors to the 200-acre farm can also pick apples for $25 per bag, which includes admission for up to five people. The farm has more than 50 family-friendly activities, including a barnyard arcade, low ropes course, goat-petting, giant swing, hayride, and much more. Apple cider donuts, cider slushies, hot coffee, and hand-crafted beer is available to purchase on site.
The farm is open through Oct. 29, on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ages two and under are free.
