'Amazing customers': Denneno's Pizza in Stoughton closing after nearly 70 years
STOUGHTON — One of the go-to pizza shops for local residents is closing its doors at the end of the year after nearly 70 years in business.
Denneno's Pizza announced last week on social media that the business' last day in operation would be Dec. 31.
"The time has come for us as a family to make the difficult decision to close our family business," the Denneno family wrote in the announcement. "We are grateful for your patronage and support for the past 68 years."
Denneno's, located at 545 Pearl St. near the Canton town line, opened in the mid-1940s.
"Times have definitely changed, as well as age, which has led us to this decision to close," the announcement says.
Why are they closing now?
The Denneno family said that their mother, longtime owner Carmella Denneno, wanted them to close the business when she died in 2017.
"However, we felt that it was not the time to end our family's legacy," the announcement says.
The family said it has been asked many times over the years if the business was closing and they wanted to properly inform customers and employees of the decision.

Thank you to 'amazing' employees and customers
"The family business has played an integral part in shaping our lives with regard to public service," the family said in the announcement. "We could not have done it without the many amazing employees that we came to know and have worked with throughout the years. We have come to consider them family because of their work ethic, loyalty and friendship. Likewise, we have had some of the most amazing customers whom we have come to consider friends. We want to thank you for having had the opportunity to serve you over the many years."
