Speeding drunk driver slams into utility pole in rollover Bridgewater crash, police say
BRIDGEWATER — A speeding drunk driver crashed into a utility pole in Bridgewater, snapping it in half and knocking live wires into the roadway, Police Chief Christopher Delmonte and Acting Fire Chief John Schlatz said in a written statement.
“An initial investigation indicates that the operator of the Toyota crossed the marked traffic lanes while driving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then struck the utility pole and rolled onto its roof,” the statement said.
The driver, an unidentified 30-year-old man, was found lying in the grass near the vehicle. Paramedics transported him to an area hospital with what they believe to be non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

First responders arrived on scene shortly after 9:51 p.m. to find an older model Toyota Camry sedan overturned in the westbound lane of Spruce Street.
A utility pole next to the vehicle was snapped in half, partially laying down with live wires sprawled over the roadway, the statement said. National Grid was called to the scene to assist with clearing the downed wires.
The driver will be summoned to court at a later date to face charges that include drunk driving, speeding, negligent driving and a marked lanes violation, the statement said.
Bridgewater Police with assistance from the Plymouth County Sherriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation continue to investigate the incident.
