Republican presidential candidates have been campaigning in Iowa for months, hoping to persuade Iowans to support them at the 2024 Iowa Caucuses. So, when is Caucus Day?

The Republican Party of Iowa's presidential caucuses are scheduled for Monday, Jan. 15, 2024.

"We remain committed to maintaining Iowa's cherished first-in-the-nation caucuses and look forward to holding a historic caucus in the coming months and defeating Joe Biden come November 2024," Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Jeff Kaufmann said in a July statement when the date was set.

Why are the Republican 2024 Iowa Caucuses being held on MLK Jr. Day?

It's true that the GOP's Caucus Day is also Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday.

Kaufmann told reporters that Jan. 15 fit best with other early states — although he said Republicans were "certainly very pleased" that people may have more availability to attend a caucus on the holiday.

Iowa Republican Party Chair Jeff Kaufmann speaks during Gov. Kim Reynolds Harvest Festival at the Elwell Family Food Center at the Iowa State Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 14, 2023 in Des Moines.

"We see this as honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King, in terms of having a caucus here," he said.

Local Republican parties are still working out a list of caucus sites for the 2024 contest.

What is the date of the Democrats' Iowa Caucuses for 2024?

Democrats will also meet on Jan. 15, 2024 to caucus to conduct party business. But, after adopting major changes to their process, Democrats will cast their presidential preferences entirely by mail.

They will complete their mail-in caucus and announce the results on March 5, 2024, or Super Tuesday.
