Former B-R girls basketball standout Bollin to enter transfer portal
RAYNHAM— A former Bridgewater-Raynham girls basketball standout will have a new home next season.
Former Trojan star forward and current Duke freshman Shay Bollin announced her intention to enter the transfer portal and leave the university in a statement Wednesday.
"After considerable discussion with my family, coaches and close friends, I’ve decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal and will be leaving Duke University at the end of the current semester," Bollin said. "I’m extremely blessed to have been able to fulfill my lifelong dream of playing college basketball and receiving a world class education, and I’m very grateful to everyone at Duke for their incredible support over the past year. I’m very excited to see what the future holds and am looking forward to the next chapter."
As a freshman, the 6'3" Raynham native appeared in eight games for the Blue Devils, averaging 2.1 and one rebound in 41 minutes of work off the bench. She had a career-high nine points in a 111-50 win over Charleston Southern in November, helping contribute to a Duke team that finished the regular season 26-7 and a second place finish in the ACC. Led by former Boston Celtics assistant coach Kara Lawson, the Blue Devils fell to eventual Final Four participant Virginia Tech in the ACC tournament semifinals and qualified for the NCAA Division I tournament for the first time since 2018 as a No. 3 seed, beating No. 14 Iona in the opening round before falling to No. 6 Colorado in overtime in the second round.
A 2022 B-R graduate and 2020 Taunton Daily Gazette Girls Basketball Player of the Year, Bollin averaged 18.8 points, 10 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.5 blocks and 2.2 steals per game as a sophomore as the Trojans captured the Division I South title before missing her junior and senior years to injuries. She also excelled in AAU for the Bay State Jaguars and was ranked as the No. 33 girls basketball player in the Class of 2022 nationally by espnW. A three year captain for the Trojans, Bollin was also a 2022 McDonald's All-American nominee and won the 2020 A Shot For Life challenge.
